Oh, the second amendment. So, so very confounding. I do feel that revolution can take many forms however. It does not have to be a drawn out conflict with guns that leads to a blood soaked oval office with thousands dead in the streets. As always we can look to Gandhi and MLK for fine examples.

I thought this was a really interesting blog and it makes me want to read the original writings she references by Davies and Brinton to get a little more context. I definitely agree to a large extent with the current state of the union, but I also think that there's a much better chance of evolutionary reform than revolutionary reform in America's immediate future (though maybe I'm just an optimist). There are many governmental fail-safes that are just starting to come into action, and what their outcomes are will, I believe, largely determine the fate of our nation. Vermont withdrawing their support of the war in Iraq and bringing their state guard home, for instance, is an amazing display of this fail-safe system in action (state vs. federal government power balance). I think, and hope, we'll see a lot more of this type of resistance in the near future. What will bring real revolution is if/when these fail-safes fail to work. Then we'll know that the system is truly faulty, the US is no longer a democracy and revolution is the only course. However, if you believe that revolution *is* nearing the inevitable, you may want to strongly consider your position on gun control, as the right to keep and bear arms is the final constitutional fail-safe against a corrupt and overbearing government.
