Bill Gates: Internet Censorship Won’t Work

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates argues that "efforts by countries like China to restrict the exchange of information on the Internet are ultimately doomed to failure... China has grappled with the issue of Internet censorship in recent years and Microsoft, along with several other U.S. companies, has come under fire for aiding in this effort."

I certainly hope that Bill Gates' argument is correct. It is an interesting time we're living in. In just over a decade, the internet has changed so much. This type of access to information will surely have a long-term impact on the development of society. For a country to put extreme limits on its people's access to information seems extremely short-sighted. It's also nice to read about Mr. Gates' post-retirement intentions. He's definitely reinventing his image and it warms my heart to see someone with such wealth and connections using his power for world benefit.

found a blog that summarizes Gates comments at Stanford ... http://thecollegedays.blogspot.com/2008/02/bill-gates-on-software-innovation.html a good snippet on the future of software: For someone who works in an office - they are information starved ... they try to look at key indicators, to collaborate with people far off - these people are not yet fully empowered. Sounds like Gates would support Giveback! ;)
