Tibetan People's Uprising Movement
Tibetans living in exile in India have launched a "March to Tibet" as part of the Tibetan People's Uprising Movement. This historic movement aims to revive the spirit of the Tibetan national uprising of 1959, and by engaging in nonviolent direct action, bring about an end to China's occupation of Tibet.
March to Tibet
The Plan
2008 YEAR OF ACTION FOR TIBET
Exiled Tibetans living in India have launched the March to Tibet action campaign. The marchers have undergone training on non-violent direct action and are now walking throughout India to raise awareness before entering Tibet. The six-month long walk started March 10, 2008 and will pass through New Delhi and the north Indian states, before reaching the Tibet border at the start of the 2008 Olympic Games.
Their goal is to seize the Olympic spotlight and shine it on China's suppression of the Tibetan people, thereby denying China the international acceptance and approval it so fervently desires.
Their march will be long and difficult. The marchers face hunger and freezing temperatures in the Himalayas and are taking only what they can carry on their backs. They will need medicine, food, lodging, shoes and warm clothes to make it safely through their journey. Our goal is to raise $7,440 -- enough aid for 12 marchers for a full month.
